Local Church Will Offer Sex Ed for K-1 Kids
What do little kids barely in school need to know about sex and sexuality? Aren’t they too young to worry about these things?
It turns out that depends on how you define sexuality and what things they’re worrying about.
Our Whole Lives (OWL) teaches comprehensive sexuality education. That means that students learn about their bodies and babies, but we also work on relationships, respect, and responsibility.
Through age-appropriate methods (including music, stories, and crafts) and using developmentally appropriate content, the OWL grades K-1 program helps children:
Strengthen their sense of self and self-esteem.
Recognize and appreciate their bodies as good and beautiful, private and their own.
Begin to examine sexuality, reproduction, and gender identity.
Prepare for the normal changes they will experience as they grow and develop.
Develop effective communication skills.
Make decisions that are healthy for themselves and others.
Appreciate and respect diversity in families and among people.
OWL also supports families as they begin having open discussions about life questions, and reinforces that guardians are their children’s most important sexuality educators.
If you are interested in bringing OWL to your church or organization, or if you would like to put your child/ren on a waiting list in case there are a few openings left in this class, please contact us. This class will take place Feb. 2 - Apr. 5 with a gap for Spring Break. There will be a mandatory orientation for guardians and kids on Jan. 19.
