We’re a little late this month…

…but here’s our next menstrual hygiene coloring sheet!

Menstrual cups are a great option to both lessen your impact on the environment and lessen menstruation’s impact on your wallet. Reusable for several years, menstrual hygiene cups can be worn for 12 hours according to manufacturers, though some medical authorities recommend removing after 6-9 hours. They simply need to be rinsed between uses and should be sanitized with alcohol or boiling water at the end of each menstrual cycle.

Things to consider before purchasing a menstrual cup:

  • Vaginas come in different shapes and sizes, just like any other parts of the body.

    • Because of this, companies generally make more than one size of menstrual cup. One size is primarily for younger folks and those who have not given birth vaginally; another size is primarily for folks over 30 and those who have given birth vaginally. That said, there always are exceptions to the rule.

    • All cups have some sort of tag or ball so they are easy to remove. Some of these can be cut shorter to accommodate a fairly shallow vagina.

  • Cups come in different shapes (longer, wider, with an inward-facing lip, an outward-facing lip, or no lip, etc.). Some are quite firm, some are more flexible. The first menstrual cup you get might not be the ideal menstrual cup for you, but there’s a lot of information out there to help you make the right choice.

  • There are many ways to fold a cup for insertion and different ways to position your body. Again, do some research to find the right combination for you and your menstrual cup.

RISE will be announcing a menstrual cup project in the Spring of 2020—subscribe to our mailing list at the bottom of our website and we’ll send more information when it’s available!

And if you like what we’re doing, remember we can only do it with donations from fantastic friends like you!
