Trauma-informed Care Basics

Join certified facilitator trainers Jessie Birkeland and Cindi Huss for this 3-hour online, interactive workshop introducing the basics of trauma-informed care. This workshop is sponsored by Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition and is open to the public. Preregistration is required.

Trauma-informed approaches enhance education and care for all people. We will discuss how common trauma is, what common trauma responses look like, how to begin recognizing and addressing our biases, and how we can better serve the more than 70% of Americans who identify as people who have experienced trauma.

Whether this is a new concept for you or you want to refresh your knowledge, this workshop is appropriate.

After this workshop participants will be able to

  • Identify different levels of trauma.

  • Share how trauma can affect behavior and a person's health.

  • Describe the 6 principles of trauma-informed care.

  • Explain how compassion, connection, and community build resilience.

  • Discuss the 4 Rs of trauma-informed care and how they can apply them in their personal and professional lives.
