POSTPONED--Stellar Sex Ed Facilitator Training

Workshop Postponed

This workshop, initially scheduled for January 19-20, 2023, has been postponed because RISE will be changing locations this month. More details to come on both the move and the new dates.

Overview

This training will enable facilitators to provide Stellar Sex Ed to high-school youth and adults AND to "stellarize" other curricula so it is more affirming and trauma-informed while adhering to local and state restrictions.

Facilitator training will cover curriculum content as well as facilitation best practices and tips for making any sex ed more accessible to all neurotypes. Electronic access to the curriculum for each organization whose trainees effectively complete the course is included in the tuition.

Time—This workshop has been postpned and will be rescheduled for March or April 2023.

Two days, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (morning and afternoon breaks and an hour for lunch)

Place

RISE’s new workshop space

Food

  • Snacks, coffee, tea, and water will be provided.

  • Participants should bring their own lunch or plan to run out for lunch during the midday break.

Cost

It is important that responsible, inclusive, trauma-responsive sex ed is accessible to everyone, so we have a tiered tuition structure. If your organization truly cannot donate toward these classes at all, that's cool. Please sign up anyhow.

  • RISE Staff and Volunteers—$0

  • Tier 1—No cost, same great experience

  • Tier 2--Covers some of the cost of the workshop—$75

  • Tier 3—Covers a little more than half the cost—$150

  • Tier 4—Covers all of the cost—$225

Description

Stellar Sex Ed engages participants in an expansive exploration of their inner and outer space. It fundamentally changes the way we facilitate sexuality education. Free of judgment, Stellar Sex Ed dismantles stigma and invites honest, compassionate curiosity about bodies, identities, and relationships.

This facilitator training will share how and why the curriculum developed as well as strategies for guiding a well-rounded exploration of whole people, especially when cultural norms might challenge scientific and psychological reality.

Stellar Sex Ed is intentionally trauma informed, antioppressive, and accessible to people with various learning styles and abilities. In addition, Stellar Sex Ed facilitator training can help facilitators of any curriculum, even in strictly regulated Tennessee public schools, create a more trauma-informed, inclusive experience for students.

  • Learn how to engage participants' imagination and encourage exploration and curiosity more actively.

  • Find out what curriculum, facilitator, and administration characteristics enhance racial, LGBTQ+, and disability equity in sex ed--and why that is important.

  • Learn to think about human inner and outer space from new perspectives, free from shame and fear tactics.

RISE recommends at least two facilitators work together on any workshop or class, so if your organization is considering sending one facilitator trainee, please consider sending two or collaborating with another organization. Let us know at RISE if you might need cofacilitators—we love collaborating!
