Youth Rights Roundtable

Sexuality education brings up big feelings and big ideas. The shOUT Coalition hosts conversations with various groups in the Appalachian Highlands of SW Virginia and NE Tennessee to find common ground.

Join shOUT for a conversation among young adults as we explore the needs youth have compared to the education and access they get to sexual and reproductive health education, care, and resources. Young adults will talk messages and information they got from their:

  • Families.

  • Friends.

  • Partners.

  • Schools.

  • Medical and mental healthcare providers.

Attend this online event via Zoom—registration required.

Participants in this Roundtable will abide by a group agreement that includes:

  • One person speaks at a time.

  • Lean in, lean out (share perspectives, allow time for others to share as well)

  • Use "I" language

  • Come ready to learn, not to know

  • Be kind and respectful

Viewers will be asked stay muted with their videos off and abide by the last three agreements when asking questions/commenting via the chat.

This Roundtable is appropriate for:

  • Guardians

  • Older youth

  • People of faith

  • Anybody with questions about sex ed

  • Professional service providers such as medical professionals, educators, and school administrators

  • Youth-serving professional

  • Volunteers such as school board members.

The Sexual Health Outreach (shOUT) Coalition works to transform community systems to better serve the sexual health needs of youth in the Appalachian Highlands of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. The shOUT Coalition centers youth voices and best practices.

shOUT is a collective impact initiative, and its work is anchored by the YWCA of NETN/SWVA and RISE: Healthy for Life.
