Bristol (VA) Train Station
101 MLK Jr Blvd
Bristol, VA

We know many factors influence physical and mental health, including access to information and care, education, support systems, stability, and a sense of belonging. We also know that youth in the Appalachian Highlands deserve the best foundation we can give them.

Join us for a summit that will forge community connections, strengthen our skills to better work with young people, and introduce new ways of thinking about adolescent health. Attendees will participate in workshops and working groups and have opportunities to visit information tables.  A light breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages will be provided.

  • Learn about the listening circles shOUT conducted with youth and young adults and find out what they said they wanted and needed from care providers and educators.

  • Take workshops, including:

    • Let’s Talk! Being an Askable Adult for Young People (including trauma-informed approaches)

    • Finding Common Ground: telling stories and listening deeply to broaden tough conversations

    • Sharing Power with Young People

    • Raising Resilient Youth: PACEs and Sexual Health Outcomes

    • Teaching and Talking About Healthy Relationships with Young People

    • Youth/Parent Engagement: The Listening Circles Process

The afternoon will offer an opportunity for groups to examine where there is strength/where there are gaps in providing trauma-responsive, affirming care and education for youth as whole people in the Appalachian Highlands of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. Participants will identify new potential partners and commit to actions they can take to help chart a new path to lifelong health for and with youth.
