WJHL recently reported that the Kingsport Board of Education is considering a policy that would erase LGBTQ people!
Here's the language that is being floated:
"All curriculum and instructional programming implemented in the school district shall adhere to state and federal laws. District employees shall not include or promote any concepts that would violate state law when providing instruction, using instructional or supplemental materials, or when implementing the instructional program curriculum and shall not create, facilitate or engage in classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity."
What can you do? Put on a RED shirt and join us at the Kingsport Board of Education work session on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at 400 Clinchfield St in Kingsport. The meeting takes place in the Tennessee Room on the 3rd floor. Find the Facebook event page here. Help us show solidarity with LGBTQ students.
If the policy advances from the work session, it would be up for a formal vote at a future Board of Education meeting. We will keep you posted.
