Join our Collective Impact partners Healthy & Free TN on Friday, March 19 at 1 p.m. ET, 12 p.m. CT, for a panel discussion on “failure to protect” laws. We will hear from local and national experts about how the child welfare system can entangle people experiencing intimate partner violence, and how it can lead to the removal of their children and/or criminal penalties.
This panel will touch on a bill introduced this year in TN (SB400) that would require domestic violence shelters, sexual assault centers, and shelters for trafficking survivors to turn over confidential client records when the Department of Children’s Services requests them.
Art by Titus Kaphar is a painting of a Black mother with eyes closed holding a young child, but where the child should be is just an empty space.
