Affirming care for LGBTQ+ patients

On Saturday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) medical grad student-run Sexuality and Gender Equality (SaGE) Club is sponsoring the workshop: “Rising Voices: Affirming Care for LGBTQ+ Patients” facilitated by RISE: Healthy for Life. This workshop is free and open to all LMU students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and it will open to folx outside the LMU community on Oct. 25.

This workshop for medical and mental health staff and students as well as other care professionals will help participants process the lived experiences that LGBTQ+ people shared about seeking care in our area. Participants will examine what they hear, identify community resources and allies, and develop action steps to implement patient-focused improvements within practices and organizations right now to create more affirming, empowering healthcare experiences for all people

This hybrid (masked, in-person and via Zoom) workshop begins with a viewing of the Rising Voices LGBTQ+ Panel. In-person participants will enjoy a brief lunch, then all participants will take part in a workshop that includes both large- and small-group work and individual reflection. Participants should have paper and pen available for taking notes and recording commitments to action.

Remember, initial registration is limited to LMU students, faculty, and alumni, and registration for those outside the LMU community begins on Monday, Oct. 25.

The Rising Voices panel and workshop were developed by a collaboration among Collective Impact for Emotional and Sexual Health, A Step Ahead Tri-Cities, the ETSU Women’s Resource Center, the Robertson Pride Center at ETSU, the TN Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, and RISE: Healthy for Life.
